News: Respawn denies Bethesda collaboration
The presence of Jason West and Vince Zampella at last weekend's QuakeCon event does not imply that the pair are collaborating with ZeniMax Media or any of its studios, according to Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard.
Present at the event, sister site Eurogamer asked Howard whether anything should be read into the attendance of West and Zampella - as they represented their new studio Respawn Entertainment on a panel entitled "Building Blockbusters". Howard answered simply: "No, you shouldn't".
"The Respawn guys... They're doing their game and I think EA is publishing it," he added. "But we've been friends with them for a long time. Tim and I know Vince and Jason pretty well and we thought that that would make a cool panel."
News: EA under fire over MoH multi-player
Electronic Arts has come under fire over its decision to use the current war in Afghanistan as the location for its forthcoming Medal of Honor title, in particular the multi-player elements that allow gamers to play the part of the Taliban.
One commentator on Fox News over the weekend, the mother of a soldier killed in the conflict, explained that she felt the move was "disrespectful," while some game critics have already voiced their unease at the move.
"We've just come off of the worst month of casualties in the whole war, and this game is going to be released in October - so families who are burying their children are going to be seeing this, and playing this game," said Karen Meredith.

News: DICE collaborating with Criterion on Need For Speed
Battlefield developer DICE is collaborating with Criterion Games on the forthcoming Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, according to the latest preview information.
Speaking to Eurogamer's Digital Foundry, Criterion staff indicated that the large in-game map was the initial catalyst for contacting DICE, whose 200-strong Swedish studio dwarves the smaller Guildford-based Criterion.
"We designed the world here, handling guys and the world artists worked together to make sure the game world drives well and feels right, said Criterion senior engineer Alex Fry.

News: Get Games: Steam's success is an "opportunity"
While the success of Valve's PC and Mac digital download platform, Steam, is estimated to take a significant chunk of the total market - with some commentators estimating as much as a 75 per cent stake - that success has given other site such as Get Games an "opportunity" as increasing numbers of gamers become comfortable with the process.
That's according to MD Andy Payne, who acknowledged that content creators were finding it more difficult to place games onto the service now as Valve was able to pick and choose more carefully.
"It is getting much harder - and if we do our job, then some time in the future, we'll be in exactly the same position," he said, and agreed that potentially that could push some people to look for alternatives - such as Get Games.
